The Honda Vezel seeks inspiration from the concept Urban SUV launched way back in January at 2013 Detroit Auto Show. It’s safe to say that Honda has retained the concept design for the Vezel. And, it’s absolutely beautiful.
There was probably no other sedan in its price point that came close to the City. With this reaction, Honda was convinced that the Indian market had huge potential for any car manufacturer. Since then, they’ve been handling competition quite nicely with the current gen City, still fighting to the death for the crown of the best sub-10 Lakh sedan category, the Brio and the Amaze making strides in their respective segments. But, they haven’t produced the same results with the CR-V, the only SUV from Honda (in India, of course). And, with the ever-increasing popularity of compact SUVs in the market, it’s about time that Honda introduces one and join the club.
The rear retains the exact same design from the concept, with the large tail-lamps and muscular rear haunches. Unique to the Vezel, the interior looks cleaner and somewhere you’d enjoy sitting. Notice there aren’t any aircon vents anywhere near the infotainment screen? That’s because they’re relocated to the passenger side as a long, large strip on the dashboard.
The Vezel that will be touching down on Indian shores will come with either a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol motor or a 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel motor under the hood. Expect these engines to be slightly uprated to pull the SUV’s weight.
The new Urban SUV will be launched in Europe during 2015, with the name of the European model being confirmed nearer to launch, exterior design of the new model is close to a SUV, with coupe-like styling in its upper body. The sharp character lines create an inspiring and emotional exterior design. The interior is designed to create a high-quality space for the driver and front passenger, and comfort and functionality for those in the rear.
